Biblical Studies - Book of Mark

The Gospel of Mark is brief and enigmatic. It is the shortest account of the life and words of Jesus found in the New Testament. It omits details that many of us would deem essential, and it tells the story of Jesus’ ministry as if in a hurry. As the narrative rapidly progresses, the audiences are perplexed, wondering who he is, but Jesus is not very explicit about his identity. On several occasions, he asked the witnesses of his miraculous signs to keep quiet. Additionally, he spoke in parables so that some of the listeners would not understand his message. Why? Join us as we explore the reason for Jesus’ secrecy and the relationship between his suffering and the Kingdom of God. In this course, we will read the text in light of its socio-cultural context and examine “the gospel” within the Gospel of Mark.
